The debt collector Arvato Financial Solutions from the Bertelsmann Group, which works for British Gas, gained access to apartments with the help of a locksmith in the winter cold in order to install prepaid payment meters for defaulting gas customers. Should the customers not have sufficient means to pay, which are to be stored in the app, gas and electric power are automatically switched off. The customers affected included a young mother with a four-week-old baby.
